What does the Fire Department respond to?
For most EMS calls, two Fire Department apparatus will respond: an ambulance plus a fire engine or fire truck. Two personnel will staff the ambulance, and at least three people will be on the fire engine or fire truck.

Volunteer firefighters are not required to respond to every call when they are “off.” If there are working a shift at the station, they will respond to all calls received. However, when they are at home (on- call ) they respond to any calls they are able.

The first reason has to do with having enough staffing to take care of the patient. All of our firefighters are also trained as paramedics. Again, the people on the fire truck /engine are also paramedics and carry the same ALS medical equipment as an ambulance, and they can begin care before the ambulance arrives.

You don’t. The firefighters pay for their own meals. However, their scheduling is such that they must do some of the purchasing during their shift, which lasts 24 hours. So when you see your firefighters in the store with a cart full of goodies, rest assured it is their own money that is paying for the purchase.
